N-Gauge - Amtrak GG1 #913

N-Gauge - Amtrak GG1 #913

The GG1 is technically two 4-6-0 (G) locomotives under one shell, adding up to a 4.6k horsepower behemoth that was staggeringly powerful and fast even by today's standards. Thanks to the long life and usefulness of the GG1, many outlived the PRR, finding themselves in Penn Central, and later in their life, Amtrak paint. These locomotives were used in everything from freight service to pulling Amtrak passenger trains. Many of these locomotives continued to operate well into the 1980’s – their nearly 50 year lifespan a tribute to how powerful and effective this locomotive truly was.
This locomotive is painted in the black ex-Penn Central colors to represent the locomotive's late-70's/early-80's appearance.

N-Gauge - BNSF Swoosh SD70AC #9748

Production of the SD70MAC began in 1993 as a competitor to the AC4400CW. Over the years more than 1000 units were produced. The modern "Swoosh" logo (known by a variety of names, including "Heritage III" and "Bold Heritage"), is the current-day face of the railroad-formerly-known-as the Burlington Northern & Santa Fe Rail road. Today you can see these newly painted units running ahead of Intermodal and BethGon Coal trains.

Model Features:
Prototype details - Cab Headlight and Early type trucks
Powerful five-pole KATO motor with dual brass flywheels

N-Gauge - CB&Q F3A #99600

N-Gauge - CB&Q F3A #99600

The F-Unit is probably the most recognized diesel locomotive in North American history. It was found on railroads from East to West and North to South. Eastern railroads favored a "Single Headlight" version of the F3, while Western railroads favored a "Dual Headlight" version.

F3 locomotives were used in both freight and passenger service. For passenger service, it was necessary for the locomotives to have a Steam Generator to provide heat and electricity in the passenger cars. In later years, many F3 locomotives originally intended for passenger services were downgraded to freight duty.

The Kato EMD F3 comes in both A and B (cabless) variations. All current variations of the F-unit locomotive chassis are DCC friendly. Passenger units are commonly identified by their Steam Generators vs. freight units which lack this detail. The 2014 run of CB&Q Freight F3's have a number of passenger features, such as the straight pilot, as they began their life as locomotives pulling the California Zephyr before being repainted and repurposed as freight locomotives.

Model Features:
DCC friendly mechanism
A-unit LED has directional headlights and illuminated number boards
Locomotives have a powerful five pole motor with all wheel electrical pickup and blackened wheels
KATO magnetic knuckle couplers
Drop in DCC compatible with the Train Control Systems K0D8 series and Digitrax DN163K0B

N-Gauge - CN ES44AC #2825

N-Gauge - CN ES44AC #2825

The ES (Evolution Series) of locomotives were designed to meet the U.S. EPA's Tier 2 locomotive emissions standards that took effect in 2005. With a newly designed "GEVO-12" 12 cylinder engine, these AC traction locomotives have the same 4,400 horsepower as the 16 cylinder AC4400CW but produce fewer emissions and have greater fuel economy. Possibly their most identifiable trait is their “oversized” radiator, courtesy of a specially designed air-to-air dual fan heat exchanger.

The Canadian National was a late adopter of the ES44AC, putting them into service on the steep grades of their ex-BC rail main line.

Model Features
Nose Headlight, high numberboards, four window cab.
Powerful Kato mechanism powered by a 5-pole flywheel motor and featuring a 9 3/4" minimum turning radius.
Directional Headlight and illuminated, preprinted numberboards.
Illuminated ditch lights.
DCC Friendly mechanism ready for drop-in decoder installation.

N-Gauge - NP NW2 #102

N-Gauge - NP NW2 #102

The EMD NW2 is a 1,000 horsepower yard switcher, its distinctive twin-stack profile and short radiator creating a distinctive silhouette. Perhaps ironic, considering its 1000 horsepower engine, the N in NW2 stood for nine hundred horsepower, with the W designating that it was a welded frame locomotive, instead of a cast frame. The Northern Pacific owned 6 of these locomotives as originally purchased from EMD, using them in switching service for two decades before they eventually were moved into the BN fleet.
Equipped with body mounted KATO magnetic knuckle couplers.
Features directional Golden White LED headlights and illuminated preprinted numberboards.
Sophisticated lightpiping keeps the visible cab interior free of lighting equipment.
Interior cab can be populated with N scale figures from our N Yard Crew Day/Night set, #24-270
Locomotive is DCC friendly, able to take drop in decoders such as Digitrax DN123K3 or Train Control Systems K3D3
